My new peer-reviewed article at Journal of Graphic Novels and Comics got a shout-out on in the January news roundup Milestones at the Mount Holyoke College website. Here's a screencap:

A short article written at the request of the editor has been posted at the webzine Sociological Imagination. I discuss the differences between journalism and sociology and provide some suggestions to scholars who wish to interact with the journalistic field.

Speaking of Sociological Imagination, I am also currently preparing a new weekly column there, to be titled "Mediated Matters." The column will cover issues related to media broadly defined, as well at how social phenomena are depicted through various media objects. I am also signed on as a contributor to The Comics Grid, a blog maintained by a consortium of comics scholars. Stay tuned!

How do you manage to be so insanely productive? :(
6th-Feb-2011 10:07 pm (UTC)
Who ever said I'm "insanely productive" (besides you)? :P
6th-Feb-2011 10:09 pm (UTC)
You can say you're not. I look at your output and think that you're incredibily productive in a way that I cannot be, no matter how hard I try. You've done several conferences and gotten published in several journals. How is that not awesomeness and being very productive?
6th-Feb-2011 10:19 pm (UTC)
Hmm. How about when everybody else does exactly the same thing (or more)? >_< "Very" is relative, after all...
6th-Feb-2011 10:27 pm (UTC)
Very is relative. Perceptions of reality are also very relative. You just have an admirable skill set at wanting to get published and getting published that I don't have.

Apparently, where I'm headed is likely to be a networker, conference organizer, researcher who teaches methodology where my research results are less important. I've helped organize two conferences, working on one, possibly two or three in the near future, organizing at least 8 workshops. I've finished the first draft of my dissertation in 9 months.

Your productivity is different than mine and knowing the process involved, scary huge amounts of work that you do as it just seems totally alien to me... so yeah. From my perspective, you're insanely productive. :)

Oh Casey, I'm so excited for you! Just keep doing what you can to build that CV! *chuckles* Maybe then you won't feel so bleak about the job market when you finish at Cambridge...?

PS: Real busy this week, but let me call you this upcoming weekend, if you are not indisposed? In the meantime, do a little dance on the altar for me, too, please.

let me call you this upcoming weekend, if you are not indisposed?

Absolutely. ^_^ Just give me a rough sense of when you plan to call so that I'll have my cell phone nearby.

In the meantime, do a little dance on the altar for me, too, please.

*dance dance* *dance dance*

Go, go and ganbatte!

The teacher in me noticed a spelling mistake in the Sociological Imagination post - can you still get that corrected?

as such, sociologists seek to describe an analyze broad social formations, structures, and forces.

Oops, one more.

Become familiar with those who writes about topics related to what you do and where they publish.

The spirit that I'm mentioning this in is a) anal retentive behaviour of a teacher and b) more to the point - that I'm hoping your lovely academic prose will shine all the brighter with no mistakes included.

Thanks--just fixed! (I was recently given limited posting access to the SI site, so fortunately I can go in an edit typos.)

Yay for posting access! One thing less the envious can moan about. And makes reading the prose all the more smooth ^-^
