"In the city of my birth, I had a dream..."
I have a shameful confession to make...

I am addicted to higher education periodicals. The Chronicle of Higher Education (US-centric), The Times Higher Ed (UK-centric), and the online-only Inside Higher Ed (US-centric)--I probably boost their net traffic by an order of magnitude all by my lonesome.

So color me delighted to discover this post-ASA shout-out on the University of Venus blog, hosted by my favorite of the Higher Ed Holy Trinity, Inside Higher Ed. Blogger Mary Churchill writes:
that afternoon I presented on the process of reading comic books and as I was leaving the ballroom, manga scholar, Casey Brienza came hurrying in. we had already “met” on Twitter and hit it off immediately. had an intense and very long conversation on comics, manga publishing, sociology, mentoring, race, and life.
By the way, by "long" she meant two hours. Given the right interlocutor, apparently I have the gift of gab. (^^;;;;

That's the ideal way to make a friend with fellow interests ^^, yay for her multitasking planning (just read the post) and the way you two hit it off. I clicked on the link to your official site and holey moley you have an amazing number of publications to your credit at your age. Brill!

Thanks very much for the compliment. ^__^ But for what it's worth I honestly think that, for the career stage in question, my publication record is little better than mediocre.

I've heard about "Publish or Perish" but you are the first person I've "met" who really has to follow that paradigm and does her best to do so.

Yeah, well. -_-;;;; Just please do me a favor and pray to any and all Higher Powers who might be listening that I don't "perish." T_T

I'll keep you in my thoughts, definitely!

That's a nice compliment.

Two hours? That's just a warm up! (lol) The longest time I spoke with you was about affirmative action. I lost count after the 6th hour, and my throat was sore by the end. I actually really miss those kinds of engaging conversations...

Six+? Surely you jest! XD XD XD But you know, I do seem to remember having a loooong talk about affirmative action with you...
