Tomorrow I cross the Atlantic to begin a PhD program in Sociology at the University of Cambridge. (The one in England, in case you were wondering. *sighs* )

Wish me well! ^_^;;

Although I do not anticipate being away from the Internet for more than 48 hours, I may for all intents and purposes be MIA for the next couple of weeks until I am completely settled in at Cambridge.

Wah! I thought this was coming up soon!

Damn, girl, I hope you can get skype or something (I know you told me they got rid of it in the dorms but still. I hope we can still get together and bitch about a) academia and b) the industry!)

Safe travels, of course, and hope all goes well as you settle in.

Good luck, safe trip, and I cannot wait to hear updates from across the pond!

Ooooo! Travel envy!

Good luck with the PhD! Will you be posting research updates here (or elsewhere)? If you're ever in Belgium and would like to get dragged around our uni's new manga research center, poke me :)

Will you be posting research updates here (or elsewhere)?

Absolutely. Since I don't do Facebook, this is my primary blog/social networking venue. LJ tends to be where I go to write first when I have something to say. ^_~

If you're ever in Belgium and would like to get dragged around our uni's new manga research center, poke me :)

Oooohhh, you have a "manga research center"??? Really? Now that's worth a visit all by itself!

Oh, and thanks for the well-wishes!!

Oh good, definitely looking forward to hearing about your project. And LJ can use some more manga research. (It still tries to correct my spelling of 'manga', by the way.)

It's a small research center, a two-year research project that got turned into a permanent center a couple of months ago; the change hasn't even been announced on the website yet because we want to wait until we've finished the spiffy new site design before we haul out the trumpets. Save for the workshops and the library, most of what we do is actually available online ;) Please do come by if you ever have the time! Academics aside, Belgium is a lovely place with much good food and drink.

I'm sure various academic obligations and the like will force me to travel. If your center ever holds a conference, let me know--I'd love to come. ^_^

By the way, if you didn't already notice them, here are links to two manga-related academic journal articles I've written (published earlier this year):

Will do ;) Nope, I hadn't caught those yet. Added them just now, thank you!
