The email I got from one of the aforementioned contributors today, in her capacity as book review editor for a certain glossy periodical which is trying to be to sociology what Discover is to natural science. Hopefully, I've now got another review safely in the bin, and this one--Praise the Lord!--is not on comic books. (Believe it or not, I can write about stuff that doesn't involve manga.) The topic is international adoption in both academic and popular literature...and on that note, I highly, highly recommend Culture Keeping: White Mothers, International Adoption, and the Negotiation of Family Difference by Heather Jacobson.

Okay, so the last bit of news isn't about books per se, but you can bet these people will be writing books themselves in a few years. Biographical sketches for all of USC Annenberg's new first-year cohort have gone up online here. I met most of them this past spring, and they are an awesomely talented bunch. You betcha I cringed, though, when I noted that there were "only" nineteen...
