Quite a Few Manga Reviews (Hey, that rhymes!)

Haven't updated the LJ with recent reviews posted elsewhere for quite a long time because, umm, I forgot. Right~ Sorry 'bout that.

Anyway, since I've been posting reviews published at multiple venues, I think it's high time to state what should be obvious: This stuff is for editorial press. That means that I am paid to write these reviews according to pre-established guidelines. These guidelines range from simple word count targets/limits to whether or not I'm allowed to pan (a.k.a. write negatively about) books. As such, you should never assume, when it comes to reviews posted elsewhere, that this is how I would write when left to my own devices--or even, for that matter, what I would write about, period! In practice, it's nearly impossible to fully untangle the critic's position from the publication's position, even when the publication tries to draw distinctions (as they often do). Hell, even The New York Times has on occasion told Paul Krugman to rein in his political criticism!

So. Yeah. Bear that in mind. Now, to the reviews:

At Graphic Novel Reporter (part of The Book Report Network family of websites):
Seduce Me After the Show by Est Em
Lovers and Souls by Kano Miyamoto

At Anime News Network:
Naruto Vol. 42-44 by Masashi Kishimoto
Battle Royale -Ultimate Edition- Vol. 1 by Koushun Takami and Masayuki Taguchi
D.Gray-man DVD Season One Part One (review copy courtesy of Funimation)
Hot Gimmick -VIZBIG Edition- Vol. 1 by Miki Aihara
The Key to the Kingdom Vol. 4-6 by Kyoko Shitou
Skip Beat! Vol. 18 by Yoshiki Nakamura (review copy courtesy of Viz Media)
Battle Royale -Ultimate Edition- Vol. 2 by Koushun Takami and Masayuki Taguchi
Silver Diamond Vol. 1-3 by Shiho Sugiura
Honey Hunt Vol. 1 by Miki Aihara (review copy courtesy of Viz Media)

Thank you for this. I've been surprised at some of the grades you gave to some mangas - higher than I'd expect - I can't remember which ones, though.

*shrugs* Well, when left to my own devices, I'm a *very* tough grader. The 1-10 system (where 5 = average) I use on this LJ is my personal fave, but obviously nobody I write for uses it.

There are probably rough ways to "translate" between systems (though I tend to work across pubs it all intuitively), though I'll leave that to people with an abundance of time and nothing better to do (and I know they're out there!)...
