"In the city of my birth, I had a dream..."
Good Lord, I didn't even realize they were videotaping.

For those of you on my friends list who were following the saga of my application to PhD programs, as well as those of you who were not, this video may be of interest.

Taken at the USC Annenberg School for Communication, this lecture given by Cheree Carlson was one of the (many) events used to recruit their first round admissions cohort. Yes, I was in the audience; no, I'm not in the video. While the entire lecture is well over an hour long, those who have been following avidly may be interested in the first nine minutes or so--this first nine minutes was, as they say, the recruitment "pitch." Department Chair Larry Gross introduces the lecture, and then Annenberg Dean Ernie Wilson adds his remarks.

I explained a lot of what happened there in detail to many of you, but this, I think, shows what I was saying about the program's standing and ambition in a magnificent, high-quality video sort of way.

Not to mention the vibe of it all. Oh yes, the vibe.
