"In the city of my birth, I had a dream..."
For a mere $14.90, you can have your virginity back!!!

Who would have thought faux biohazard waste could be sexy!

I can't decide what offends me more:

1) The fact that it's even possible to buy an artificial "hymen" (complete with artificial "blood")
2) What this fact implies about some people's--not to mention some societies'--priorities
3) The ungrammatical prose of the product description (apparently made in Japan, so it's "Engrish")

Notice how this product seems, in actuality, to be selling a very specific, retrograde vision of appropriate gender roles. The woman is most desirable when she's suffering, and the man's sexual pleasure is augmented by the belief that he is making her hurt and bleed. Does that seem fair to you?

To even things out, it is my personal opinion that any purchase of an "Artificial Virginity Hymen" ought to be paired with a free one of these. XD XD XD

*raises eyebrows*

Interesting site you were browsing there.....

It was discussed on Salon.com.

Would it be possible to put that behind a cut?

I try not to ask this of people, but I won't be able to check my f-list at work today with the hymen hanging out there on it.

You can change your LJ settings so that images appear as links not as...err...images. It's a mighty handy function. ^_~

Okay, makes sense. I can't find it at the mo, and I don't have time to set up a filter, so I'm doing the lazy solution for a few hours. It's not a huffy response, promise. Heh.

See image placeholders.

BTW, I have trouble believing anyone would be able to figure out what this thing is supposed to be without being told. Semiotically, it was saying "medical waste," not "sex toy," to me, which is why I wanted the pic on top. :P

Thanks (very belatedly)!

Also, complete agreement. My first thought was that it looked like something from a hospital hazardous waste bin. My second that one of my vehemently anti-abortion friends was posting images in her journal again.

Not that you care or anything, but most of those anti-abortion pictures evangelicals use are a crock--from third trimester fetuses, which you can't abort under Roe v. Wade anyway. :P

Somehow that doesn't surprise me. *sigh*

Lol, before I even read further, I was like, that sounds like something they'd make in Japa - Yeah, yeah, it is. XD From the country that brought you used panties in snack machine distributors...

I know, right?

What so few Orientalist-obsessed white folks in the U.S. these days realize is how incredibly tasteless and totally unsexy Japanese culture can get.

Oh. My. :(
This is both disturbing and offensive.
Yet, it's a powerfl reminder of how things *really* are. Here we are, pretending to be oh so liberated and empowered, yet artificial hymens... stare us in the face, so to speak. So we wouldn't forget that women are just like cattle to some people.

What the Hell is wrong with some people?

Woah. Do women really need to go that far to 1)be "innocent" and 2)display proof of that "innocence"?

I can't imagine preparation to be "deflowered" would be very comfortable either. At the least, it would be a very delicate procedure.

But I'm glad you liked the condoms. XD

I'm going to throw up

You're welcome. ^_~
