Kethylia's Top Ten Eleven Manga (in the U.S.) for 2008:
(listed in alphabetical order)
Akihabara@DEEP by ISHIDA Ira (Media Blasters)
An intriguing story and a case study of otaku in their native habitat.
Black Jack by TEZUKA Osamu (Vertical reprint edition)
Vintage procedural-type tales from the never-forgotten God of Manga.
Disappearance Diary by AZUMA Hideo (Fanfare/Ponent Mon)
It ain't your usual manga, but it's sure to leave you laughing. (reviewed here)
Don't Blame Me by YAMADA Yugi (DMP)
And oldie but goodie from one of the best BL mangaka in the biz. (reviewed here)
The Flat Earth/Exchange by NIGOSHI Toshimi (CMX)
A great SF series. You'd hever believe it was Nigoshi's debut professional work. (reviewed here)
Future Lovers by KUNIEDA Saika (Aurora Press)
It's not her best work, not by a long shot, but Kunieda Saika is not to be missed in any incarnation.
Good-Bye by TATSUMI Yoshihiro (Drawn & Quarterly)
The third time's the charm, and this handsome hardcover book manages (unlike its predecessors) to be more than a mishmash of misogyny. (reviewed here)
Jyu-Oh-Sei by ITSUKI Natsumi (TOKYOPOP)
A solid title by one of the shoujo SF greats.
Sand Chronicles by ASHIHARA Hinako (VIZ Media)
Although it began serialization in Shojo Beat last year, the first book volume wasn't published until January 2008...so I'm counting it as a 2008 release. (reviewed here)
Song of the Hanging Sky by GIN Toriko (Go! Comi)
     Exquisite. Simply exquisite.
Soul Eater by OKUBO Atsushi (Yen Press)
And just to be inconsistent, my favorite tournament shounen-type series of the year, which debuted in Yen+ but has not yet been released in book format.

Honorable Mention:
Goth: A Novel of Horror by OTSUICHI (light novel) (TOKYOPOP)
Very good and very readable. The best light novel of the year.

Your faith when faced with a total lack of supporting evidence is..."inspiring"? :P

I could say the same of you whenever you start "inspiring" me! It's already Dec 17; hear anything yet?

It's already Dec 17; hear anything yet?

In a word? "No." In three words? "Nothing about anything."

Read Song of the Hanging Sky Vol. 1. It deserves to be on this list.
