NYCC Day 1: Quick and Dirty Highlights
19th-Apr-2008 01:00 am
In case you missed it on my Twitter.

-Yen Press to publish The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya novels and manga; Okubo Atsushi's Soul Eater.
(Just reviewed the anime for the latter on ANN the other day and said there that I wanted to read the manga. What a coincidence!)

-Stan Lee/Hiroyuki Takei collaboration Ultimo to be published in English by VIZ Media. Release dates and format not yet determined.

-DC Comics/Wildstorm will be launching a new The X-Files line of comics.

-Best Promo Items: HarperCollins' "I am a Lisa Fan" fan for The Simpsons; Yen Press's Shoulder-a-Coffin Kuro pen.

-Best Random Quote: "They're having a Midwestern Moment."

I'm interested in Ponent Mon's release of more Jiro Taniguchi manga. Maybe they'll even bring Onmyouji by Yumemakura Baku.

Ponent Mon is a Spanish publisher...and I doubt it. They really only publish people in their circle. Onmyouji seems way too mainstream.

Maybe it's their English part/Fanfare then that publishes the English versions?

Not to mention impossible to get ahold of - I had one of their books on order for eight months before it was canceled.

Fanfare has a new US distributor, and Diamond has their books as well. I was told that their new books will be widely available by the end of the year.

I spoke with Fanfare on Saturday. They and Ponent Mon are separate companies, informally affiliated. In theory, at least, Fanfare might publish things Ponent Mon will not.
