"In the city of my birth, I had a dream..."
Quote of the Day (To all those who have argued that it's "shoujo" because there's a love story...)

Although genres are categories of texts, texts themselves do not determine, contain, or produce their own categorization. - Jason Mittell, Genre and Television

How about it's shoujo because...it's priddy and that's what's popular right now?

I found a shoujo magazine thats targeted to boys. what gives?

Are you thinking of Yuri Hime?

no they call it 'Comic YEll'. Its the description of the store that says its shoujo comic for boys

Ah. Not yuri manga...but close. Moe stuff. (Slugline in Japanese is "Otoko no tame no PURE de CUTE na shoujo manga-shi." The "pure" says it all.

I gotta say that I like this waaaay better than the lolicon of the 80s-90s. Even though they're still fetishizing pre-pubescent girls, at least the girls aren't getting sexually assaulted onscreen anymore. :P

All this just goes to prove the excerpt I quoted--it's not content but rather context. I hadn't thought of the moe stuff. Thanks. ^_~

I wonder how some publishers feel since moe is not as popular (its starting to pick up) here as it is in japan

Err...I'm not quite sure what you mean. ^^;; Publishers here or in Japan?
4th-Mar-2008 05:48 am (UTC)
japanese publishers. I could always ask the US publishers when I go to cons

Well...moé is a niche market that's mostly being catered to by the smaller publishers that have no direct stake in the US market...so I doubt they care very much what we over here think.
