"In the city of my birth, I had a dream..."
Wow, this performance from The Pirate Queen was broadcast on my birthday last year.

And it's so awesome. Almost feels like a belated birthday gift! XD

Yeah, yeah...I know the musical was deeply flawed, and the lyrics ("I should be free, free to be Grace/So I can feel the wind on my face") are definitely cheesy. Plus, the Disney-style feminism is about as subtle as the Irish folk dancing. But the child in me who grew up loving Les Miserables finds that the tunes are in their turn growing on her. ^^; I regret that I never was able to see it. T_T And besides, Stephanie Block, the woman who plays Grace, has an exquisite voice. (I've heard her sarcastically compared to Celine Dion. Though they do sound superficially similar, dude, so not in the same league.) Block is currently reprising her role as Elphaba in Wicked on Broadway; I yearn to go see it again--just so I can hear her sing live.

You know... I'm not saying that I have any recordings (audios or videos) of The Pirate Queen, but if you happen to ask about certain performances links to their recordings may spontaneously appear in your email... I mean, it could happen. But you know, I don't actually have anything of The Pirate Queen, just as I don't have over two hundred different bootleg recordings of The Phantom of the Opera... I really don't... but that doesn't mean that they don't exist... somewhere... secretly...

Have you read that novel that was based on her life?

I have one, although I can't remember the author - it's still in the "to read" pile. Now that I'm actually reading again, I should pull it out.
