*dies laughing* Too late to suggest that Anne Rice be remembered?

Eeyore
A little bird tells me that apparently rumor has it that I'm calling for a boycott of Vertical's release of Tera e. Wow. That's rich enough to make me want to take a break from my internet vacation. A very special someone's putting words in my mouth. I feel oh so flattered! I never knew that the opinion of a no-name young woman, who only clears 100 unique hits per day to her blog when she's the target of some wankfest or another, was so desperately important! Maybe I should just get that person to do all my blogging and writing for me and retire to someplace on the ocean.

Except that this someone's an idiot, and I'd never live it down.

Boycotts of US manga releases, my darlings, are for Tenjou Tenge fanboys who think a title's ruined if it doesn't have nipples in it. I've every intention of purchasing To Terra when it comes out (from Buy.com for any bargain hunters who may be interested). You'll undoubtedly find a review of it here sooner or later. (Maybe if you're extra extra nice to me, I'll give you some good copy. *rolls eyes* )

Yeah, no one is saying you're going to boycott--but Vertical is overacting on this way too much, as if you are saying it. 0_o. I like that blog, and I read the reviews there, but honestly, when this was between you and her--all was well and business as usual, yet suddenly it incurs the outrage of the publisher itself...that's what I say WTF. Do you know these people personally? Do they know your enemies? This happens often on the internets--pity, this is supposed to be a business, right?? XD

I stand corrected. So I'm not boycotting, but I might as well be for how much they now despise me. *rolls eyes* Even if I WERE calling for a boycott, and I had a good reason, do you think anyone would actually to me? Ha, ha.

I just really hope they're paying said blogger Lots of Money(tm) to mindlessly repeat their marketing line. I wouldn't do that sort of thing--when the line emphatically isn't true, at least--unless I were paid.

*snicker* That's rich. How to you attract all the crazies?

Ohohoh, you know what the best part is?! The publicity. Any publicity is good publicity, right? If Vertical had said nothing at all, that previous post would've been all about THEM. But since they're also up in arms against me, it's also at least half about ME. I've gotten more unique hits in the past 24 hours than I get in the average week. A publishing company giving a freelance writer free publicity. How perverse is that?

Ah, I thought that your subject was "Too late to suggest that Anne Rice be dismembered?", which was a lot more fun.

I'll reserve judgment on that until after I read her second Jesus novel. :P
11th-Jan-2007 08:31 pm (UTC)
The first one wasn't bad enough for you? :P
11th-Jan-2007 08:36 pm (UTC)
*dies laughing* Not quite, actually. Besides, the Devil still gets the best lines in Anne Rice novels. XD

So true. Anne Rice is always entertaining in one way or another, even if it's not because of her spectacular writing skillz. ;)

I grew up reading her books, so I guess I'm sentimental. I try not to read about her PR disasters or other eccentricities.

Yeah, I guess sometimes it's difficult for readers to separate the author's personal lives from their work. I once mentioned something about Orson Scott Card's political views to a good friend of mine and it really put her off his writing.

I read one of Orson Scott Card's novels (Songmaster, I think it was?) and was put off by the worldview between the pages itself. I didn't need to read up on his bio to suspect that he was a mean-spirited human being. *sighs*

I've yet to see if the Christianity in Anne Rice's Jesus books is going to offend me too. ^^;;;

Wow, if you're a glutton for that much punishment, pick up any book by Laurell K Hamilton. Especially the more recent books. I'd love to see a review for those. *chortles*

If I ever find 'em cheap enough, maybe I will. :P I do seem to have a wide masochistic streak when it comes to my reading material, don't I?

*gapes* I didn't realize until I read the comments that it was on the publisher's site itself. What a silly thing, and it's a pretty vicious attack over there. A reaction like that to a blog entry from a publisher is just... astounding. Calling attention to your blog specifically to berate and humiliate you on the publisher's website has definitely lowered my opinion of them quite a bit. Bad PR.

Not that you've been humiliated, or even phased. It is quite funny that they'd take such offense to what one person thinks. Perhaps they are not used to hearing anything but praise for what they do.

Bad PR.

Hence the reference to Anne Rice. Publishers, editors, and translators can and do succumb to the temptation too--and it's NEVER a good idea from their standpoint, never.

Not to mention that they escalated the argument by linking back to me. If you take them at their word and choose to believe they're not just being stupidly thin-skinned, then it means that I'M too big to ignore. (Which is ridiculous. I'm just another little blogger fish in a very big sea.) The longer the stream of invective, the more they amplify my importance in their world. Undoubtedly the opposite of what they intended.

Now all that's left is to find myself tossed bodily into the Fandom Wank spotlight again. 'Course, if someone in manga-dom breaks ranks and links to all this drama there, Vertical's a-comin' with me, and, yeah, that's such bad PR.

Perhaps they are not used to hearing anything but praise for what they do.

I have trouble believing that, but if it's true, it's high time to learn how to take lumps.
