"In the city of my birth, I had a dream..."
*weeps with joy* The Original Broadway Cast of Les Miserables!!!!

Dream
Singing a segment of "At the End of the Day" and the entirety of "One Day More" live during the 1987 Tony Awards:

These are some of the voices that filled my childhood, and I've never seen them ALL perform together before. And, as an added bonus, the cinematography/editing is quite good. (Most unusual for a live broadcast.) So awesome... *_*

For those of you with the misfortune not to know what's going on plot-wise in the clip: Jean Valjean (guy with the beard) is leaving Paris with his daughter Cosette for reasons not worth going into here. Cosette and Marius are in love, but Marius decides to stay and fight in the upcoming political uprising, and Eponine, the girl with the crush on him, decides to stay as well. Meanwhile, the police officer Javert (guy with the sideburns) decides to infiltrate the rebels, and the innkeeper and his wife anticipate looting the bodies of the fallen. In the musical, the intermission follows the finale of this song.

Man, that was incredible. I'm going to be singing "One Day More" to myself for the rest of the evening now.

One of my funniest childhood memories is that my best friend and I put on an impromptu performance of Les Miserables for our kindergarten class. She was Cosette, and I was everybody else. I forgot the words to "Do You Hear the People Sing" about halfway through, but I doubt anybody cared much. We didn't quite figure out just what exactly the "lovely ladies" were until fifth grade, though. :-)

(I don't think our teacher knew what to make of us)

I love Les Mis so much. Phantom is still my all time favorite and I think one of the reasons is that, if I could be anyone from Les Mis, I'd be Fantine, but she dies half way through the first act!!!! Still she is the star for a straight fourty minutes.

You should look up John Owen-Jones, he's the current London Valjean. He is fantastic and the best part is, that he is a returning Valjean, the man landed the role when he was TWENTY-SIX YEARS OLD. That's crazy. But he is sooooooooooooo good. He also was the Phantom and probably one of my favorites, too.

Have you seen the new Broadway production? My mother wants to go, but I think the chance of that happening is about as likely as my winning the lottery.

Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables are my two favorite musicals. I also like Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat and Blood Brothers, among others, though.

I am dying to see the new production, too, but I have no money what so ever. Just trekking to the city to see a movie goes way over my budget.

Phantom and Les Miserables are also my favorite musicals. I also am in love with Secret Garden and The Mystery of Edwin Drood.

A community theater is doing Joseph this summer, I'm going to tryout for it, but there are only two real female roles for that. Psssh.

And my musical senior year of high school was Blood Brothers, I love it and my two friends were the twins, but the drama teacher totally just gave the leading role to the blond, brown-nosing daughter of the PTA president. Stupid school politics. ~_~

Actually, mentioning my friends who were the twins in Blood Brothers... the one who was Mickey, my friend Evan, he actually was Gavroche. In Les Miserable. On Broadway. How cool is that?

*laughs*

I know most of the music from that show by virtue of having worked with a woman who played the soundtrack over and over, and over.. Especially On My Own, which she would perform to full dramatic effect..

Err, she was 19, which somehow makes that all sound a little less strange ^_^;

I don't like Eponine. She's always got such a screechy voice.

Oh well, that's the one I know really good ^_^;;

"One Day More" always gives me a lump in my throat. ^_^

I don't think I remember it ^_^;

The other one played over and over was, Master of the House? Think that's it..
