"In the city of my birth, I had a dream..."
Quote of the Day (I can't quite decide whether or not this makes the film sound promising... (^^; )

Thumb suckers of the world unite, the most hotly anticipated film of the, er, week, "V for Vendetta," has arrived... - Manohla Dargis, "Who Is This Masked Avenger? Guy Fawkes, Count of Monte Cristo or a Clone?," The New York Times

I'm told that it's being compared to The Matrix, and that you either love it or hate it. Since I'm much less forgiving with movies than I am with books, I suspect I'll end up in the latter category.

I've a sneaking suspicion I'll be dragged to see it this weekend...but given the way Alan Moore's comics seem to make good films only in theory, I'm not particularly hopeful.

Though I DO love Hugo Weaving. I mean, man, computer viruses, elf kings, drag queens, and now masked terrorists--he gets all the good roles. *laughs*

Reviews here in the UK have not been good.

The NY Times review wasn't good, either...as you may have guessed from this opening line. ^^; Every once in a great while, however, these sorts of films strike just the right chord with my inner 13-year-old boy; I had hoped maybe this would be one of them, but the prospects aren't looking good. (What Hollywood did to League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was unfortunate, as well.)

Ok - I've decided it was awesome, because I am weak against revenge. Which is probably why The Count of Monte Cristo is one of my favorite books ever, regardless of actual merit. Artistic revenge is a beautiful thing.

Heh. We're probably going to see it today. ^_^;

Have you read the original comic?

Nope, but I'm going to change that sometime soon. Be sure to post your impressions (of course, you always do...)

Well, I don't always talk about the films I watch. I'm so picky that sometimes it isn't worth it! ^^;;; But then you wouldn't know that if I didn't say anything, would you? Heh... >_<

It'll probably inspire me to read the comic, though, in all honesty, I like Moore's newer stuff a lot better than the vintage. Promethea was an all-time favorite, but I kept getting bored with Watchmen.

BTW, have you read The Enigma? Not an Alan Moore title, but somewhat similar in style...and it was the first (and last 'cause no one's yet tried to top it) word on a gay superhero.

I haven't read it yet, but I'll add it to my wishlist. I haven't read much of Alan Moore's stuff.

As far as The Enigma goes, let's just put it this way: Whenever I see a Geico commercial now, I snicker evilly. XD
