It's gonna be a White...Thanksgiving!
23rd-Nov-2005 08:07 pm
According to Weather.com:

TONIGHT - Mostly cloudy with periods of snow after midnight. Low 24F. Winds light and variable. Chance of snow 70%. Snowfall around one inch.

Holy...! I don't ever recall it snowing for Thanksgiving before! Talk about an early winter!

And, it's going to be extremely cold and windy tomorrow. I wonder how the Thanksgiving Day Parade is going to go...?

I remember it snowing on Halloween once. Granted, I was in Ohio at the time but our weather there was about the same as it is here.

Do you remember how long ago that was? My mother mentioned it as well, but I don't remember that at all.

I think it was my freshman or sophomore year in college, so maybe 1997, 98 or 99.

24! *shivers*

On CNN before they were hinting some balloons will likely be grounded, lest they break loose and kill many small children... I think the announcers are getting bored tonight....

24! *shivers*

It was already below freezing when I went out early around 6:30pm. Aren't you glad you're further South? ^_~

Or lest the handlers go flying away along with the balloons. ^^; I know they've grounded the balloons before due to wind. At least the snow itself isn't going to hit the city.

The heat is running right now ^^;; I think it's actually in the 50s now, but this morning it was about 40...

Snow in the city would be pretty though, very holidayish ^_^

Does it even freeze down there? It was about 28 when I left to go to work this morning (and I was still in a t-shirt...methinks something is off with my internal regulating systems), and Virginia isn't exactly top of the "cold places" list.

We'll generally get a week or two of freezing weather here during the winter, down to the low 20s.. It's kind of a strange climate, and there are plants that will grow here but no farther north, or no farther south.. I have apples and oranges growing side by side, I just like that somehow ^_^

The funny thing is the people who have always lived here.. When the temp plummets to 50, out comes the down jackets and wool hats!

Snow is evil. Unless I get to stay at home, inside, wrapped in a blanket, with a book and a nice cup of tea. Then it's OK. But having to drive 60+ miles in the stuff with the people around here...they're pretty evenly divided between the DC cummuter yuppies who think they're too important to drive safely, and the rednecks in big trucks who think that 4-wheel drive means "drive as fast as you want on ice." Yay!

*rolls eyes* SUVs on ice? Rollover time! Seems like a lot of people in the South don't know how to drive in snow.

So, are you staying home tomorrow or going out? ^_^

Going out to Erik's grandmother's house. Lots of people, lots of food...and I don't have to cook it all this year! Then I barricade myself in my house until Monday morning, in hopes that the scary after-Thanksgiving shoppers won't mistake my house for a bargain outlet. *shudders* My years of Christmas-season retail are over, and I have no desire to experience it again from the other side!

O_O You're right. Well, here, I remember it's snowed before Thanksgiving on a few very oddball winters, and of course afterward...but now that you mention it, never actually on the holiday. Go figure.

I think it's really awesome. I love snow, and I never really go very far from home around the holidays. But I'll bet a lot of people who are traveling are cursing Mother Nature right now. ^^;;; (Heard there were 2-hour delays in the airports, too.)

I remember it snowing on Thanksgiving once when I was a kid.

Oh yeah? How old were you? ^_^
