Golden
It was entertaining in parts, especially in the beginning. (A girl behind me remarked at the first shot of Harry Potter's face, "God, he's so ugly." *laughs* ) But then I remembered why I hate the franchise so much. The lack of interesting dialogue, the repetitive storylines, the anti-female strains...

The last reminds me of a comment from Jane Yolen regarding J. K. Rowling in response to a question I posed to her: Her female characters always fail. It's unforgivable. I agree.

Oh, and Ralph Fiennes does excellently as sensitive, tormented characters a la Red Dragon and The Constant Gardener but decidedly less well as evil wizards sans noses. ^^;;; I dunno about you, but, somehow, I don't think the whole "All Voldemort needs is a good hug" line of thought was something the director was going for. ^^;;;;;

Really? Her female characters always fail? o_O What anti-female strains were in the movie? (Note that I know nothing of the Potter series and have never seen/read any of it...but hm, your post somehow reminded me of certain slash fans who tend to bash females in their fics, particularly in the RPS sub-genre. Hah, Rowling as a closet yaoi writer)

On an unrelated note, a friend and I finally settled down this weekend and watched The Green Mile. All I have to say is, wow. Just wow. One of the most powerful and moving movies I have ever seen, even after having read the book. I didn't think it was possible to live up to the novel, but it managed that and more.

Yeah. Let's just say that, this film around, that, in the competition that ensued, the one female was the biggest loser. *sighs* Which continues a trend set in the three previous books.

*laughs*

You don't even like the series, and you're the first one to go see the movie! ^_~

Yeah, Rowling does just have a blatant preference for her male characters...

First out of whom?

As I often say, if it were "Harriet Potter," the books would've all bombed.

Waaaaaah! I want to see it too.

don't think the whole "All Voldemort needs is a good hug" line of thought was something the director was going for.

That's the impression you got?^_^

It is. Fiennes is a very good actor, but he has this semi-abused look about him that inspires more sympathy than fear.

*chuckles*
I guess the Voldemort fans will be happy at least^^ But I want to see the Constant Gardener soon. The reviews were mostly favourable of his performance in it.

Let me guess: The slashistas all think that he does indeed need a good hug? ^^;;; *rolls eyes* They're giving Rowlings too much credit. Her characters are 2D at their absolute best. :P

It was a good movie, the the message that it sent about pharmaceutical companies was simplistic and ultimately unrealistic. Conspiracies one that level are paranoid fantasy, not reality.

I liked one part where the guy's wife is filming him in his sleep, saying something like, "Busy dream in a world without weeds." It's, well, cute.

*laughs* Oh, no. They simply write better reasons for his turn to the dark side. HP is a case where the fanfiction is a lot better than the original fiction it's based on^_~

You're talking about The Constant Gardner here, right?

I can't stand fandoms like that. Weiss Kreuz is another one of those.

Yeah.

*blinks*
Really? We must not be reading the same WK fics then. More than half the fics are non-con, dark, and more fucked up than the original series^^

*snorts* Given how awful the series is, I'm operating under the basic assumption that almost anything would be better than the real thing. :P
