"In the city of my birth, I had a dream..."
A little library run this afternoon. ^_^

I had hoped to borrow The Front Runner by Patricia Nell Warren...but the card catalog lied like a rug. They didn't ACTUALLY have that particular book. *sighs* It sucks not being a part of the county system; I've got an ginormous county library not five minutes away, AND I CAN'T GET A LIBRARY CARD THERE!!! (Because our town opted out of the county system. Long before I ever moved here. It's not fair...)

In any case, I picked up Like People in History by Felice Picano, The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood, and Rocannon's World and Planet of Exile by Ursula K. Le Guin. I'm also eyeing Neuromancer by William Gibson, Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson, The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood, and Sacrament by Clive Barker, maybe for sometime in the new year.

Completely off-topic sorry, but I thought you might want to see this since I know you hate yaoi_daily just as much as I do.

Huh. Why am I not surprised? I was VERY tempted to throw up a post to that community telling the mod off in an extremely rude way at one point...but I decided it just wasn't worth it the fight it would spark. She can go stew in her own power trip. I watch but NEVER contribute.

*nods* I've wanted to make a post like that too, but it wouldn't have accomplished anything since as soon as the moderators would see it they'd delete it. And then they'd probably come spam my LJ; as they seem to have done to a lot of people who didn't agree with them in the past.

I never contribute either (not just because I hate the community so much, but also because I don't condone how they post full doujinshi and manga there).

And what REALLY pisses me off? Is that licensors actually go there in order to figure out what's popular!!!! *shrieks with frustration* The stuff that makes it to that comm is 99% crap. Most of the people who fangirl over there haven't the experience with the genre to know what is and isn't actually of memorable quality.

Though, in all fairness, the mod that I had a war with is not the one whose name has been named in the wank.

Are you kidding me?! That's... really sad. I don't hold the American manga industry in very high regard, but I thought that their licensors would atleast have a little more common sense *shakes head*

IMHO that community is all about smut, no care to actual worthwhile storylines or character depth *shakes head*

Not to mention that they know the licensors monitor their comm, and all it does it inflate their egos and justify their behavior all the more.

Pity 'cos I'd be very interested to get your reaction to The Front Runner!

All they had was Billy Boy. (I believe that's the third in the series after Harlan's Race.) *sighs* My town's library is very good at carrying ONLY the third books of trilogies.

It's a trilogy you really need to read in order too. Actually in many ways I preferred Harlan's Race.
