"North American Man/Boy Love Association"!!!??????

I kid not.  No wonder voters in Dover, PA ridded themselves of their pro-"intelligent design" Board of Ed.  How could people have ever taken those whack-jobs seriously in the first place if they promulgate idiocy like this:  "Board members sent out a mass mailing accusing the Dover Cares slate of allying with the American Civil Liberties Union, a group, it said in the mailing, that had also defended terrorists and the North American Man/Boy Love Association. The A.C.L.U. is representing the plaintiffs against the board."  It boggles the mind, doesn't it?

And you wonder why eggheads like me love reading The New York Times each morning.

*wanders off cackling with laughter*

NAMBLA? Aren't we on holiday from their yahoo group?
Anti-Flame Disclaimer: Just kidding all ok, that's AMLA-mellow please...

Oh, NAMBLA pops up in the news from time to time (for instance, in a missing child case in New York that has been unsolved for years, the boy was alleged to have been pictured on a NAMBLA calendar). I thought they were an urban myth when I first heard about them, but . . . nope, it's real.

You know, I thought that that South Park episode was a complete joke. I suppose I was wrong...

National Association of Marlon Brando Look-Alikes ^_^
10th-Nov-2005 06:45 pm (UTC)
That's almost worse. ^^;
10th-Nov-2005 06:45 pm (UTC)
What South Park episode? :P
10th-Nov-2005 08:31 pm (UTC)
The one with the National Association of Marlon Brando Look-Alikes convention going on at the same time the other NAMBLA was having its convention ^^;;

Explain the joke to me?^^
10th-Nov-2005 10:46 pm (UTC)
^^;; I'll try! There's one character on the show who's a parody of Marlon Brando.. So, everyone in the town hears there's going to be a NAMBLA convention, the real NAMBLA.. So the Marlon Brando character tells everyone he's going to the convention, and everyone thinks he's a pedophile.. But it turns out there's actually two NAMBLA conventions in the same hotel, and of course he's in the one for the Marlon Brando look-alikes ^_^ It was really a side story in the episode, and the main story is the kids getting mixed up with the real NAMBLA... It probably sounds VERY strange unless you've seen Southpark ^^;;

Let me get this straight. There's an organization in the US called North American Man/Boy Love Association?

*dies laughing*
This is just too funny for words^^
11th-Nov-2005 05:13 pm (UTC)
Well, freedom of association and all that ^^;; Needless to say, their membership is all men, and no boys!
11th-Nov-2005 06:21 pm (UTC)
No wonder^_^

You've never heard of NAMBLA?

Don't you watch South Park, woman!?

So are they trying to imply that having a rational and analytical mind is essentially the same as being a pedophile? Now there’s a display of desperation if I’ve ever seen one....
10th-Nov-2005 11:02 pm (UTC)
I thought the most amusing part of this display of desperation was that they were assuming that guilt by association would work for a group as famous as the ACLU. *shakes head*

If I were living there, I'd vote the Board out just for thinking that I'm so stupid.
10th-Nov-2005 11:14 pm (UTC)
Read my latest post ^_^

Heh, I wonder if they realized the ACLU would come to their aid too if they needed it....

Being told that you're associating with "Man/Boy Love" aficionados is so much more interesting than being told you're going to Hell, though. XD
11th-Nov-2005 01:30 am (UTC)
I guess they realized it wouldn’t work as well with, "And those are the same people who helped oppressed black people in the South!" ^_~
11th-Nov-2005 04:40 am (UTC)
*snorts* Well, they did it, so apparently they didn't realize. Until it was too late, of course.

What with PA with its history of Quakers and abolitionist movements...it probably wasn't a good idea to diss the ACLU.
