A Very Happy Halloween!!!

Anyone else learn "The Hearse Song" when they were a kid? There's no official version of this gruesome, death-themed folk song, and it's variations date back possibly hundreds of years.  Interestingly, I've never been able to find a text version of exactly the one that I learned anywhere, and I cannot for the life of me remember who taught it to me.

If anyone decides to go trick-or-treating in my neighborhood, well, we DO have candy prepared, so step right up. ^_~

Oh, and a very happy birthday to doktor_x!  Be sure to treat yourself to something special today, like an entire bag of peanut butter cups.  ^__^

Thanks! ^__^

All goes well for about a week and then your coffin begins to leak. The worms crawl in, the worms crawl out The worms play Pinochle on your snout.

>_< Cremation is the only way to go......

How’d you know? ^^;; Well maybe not the whole bag.... one or two for tomorrow anyway ^_^

So you've never heard this song before?

You told me, and I've been paying attention. Remember??? XD XD XD

I recognize the beginning, but the song isn’t that familiar..

I got a bag of peanut butter cups along with some other stuff for trick or treaters.. But last year only one kid showed up, so I’m guessing there’ll be plenty left for me ^_^

Do you live in a neighborhood or out in the sticks? We don't get much in the way of trick or treaters either, even though the houses are very close together here.

I guess it's kind of a neighborhood in the sticks.. Basically a small development, there are a bunch of other developments close by, but kids couldn't safely move between them without being driven.. I don't think there's many young kids at all right here, just a few that I know of..

So it's one of those childless developments, eh? ^^;;

Pretty much.. Though there are lot of older kids, high school and college.. Right next door are two high schoolers.. There just aren't many little kids..

There are lots of kids in Somerville; I see them walking home from school all the time...so I don't know why we don't get any trick-or-treaters. T_T It's strange. Maybe because we live behind the courthouse/prison? But no. The neighborhood's safe.

"Stay away from that house, it's where that crazy woman lives!" ^_~

In Mendham it was a constant parade of kids coming to the door, from about 4:00 to 9:00 or so.. When I was little me and my sisters would walk for miles and miles, and come home with pillowcases full of candy ^__^ At least one time I remember, some people had like an open house for the kids, with donuts and apple cider, and no one thought anything of going into a stranger's house for treats!

I never did much trick-or-treating as a kid; the "neighborhood" (whatta joke) wasn't conducive to it. I remember that, when I was little, our parents would just drive us around to different houses. Pretty pathetic. When I was a bit older, I would go with classmates to other towns with houses close together, but it was always more traveling than having fun.

No wonder I grew out of it so quickly.

Yeah, that all sounds like more of an ordeal than fun ;_; Probably the best place now would be a big condo or apartment complex.. The last time I went out was 6th or 7th grade, but I remember kids even in high school going out..

The last time I went out trick or treating was when my uncle called up requesting my presence to accompany my cousin Erica (my age)--who had just had a fight with her friends and had no one to go with. I was, as I often am with my family, a prop on my final Halloween outing.

I'll go with you next year if you like, I can be the prop ^_^ Of course, we'd have to find a little kid to drag along, otherwise people would think we're nuts ^^;;

*snerk* If I wore a mask, people wouldn't know how old I am. I'm only 5'3", the height I was the very last time I went trick-or-treating, I believe.

I forgot all about that song!
