"In the city of my birth, I had a dream..."
I had to go back and reread Vol. 1. That's not a good sign.

So what is this I hear about mass emails from LJ telling account holders that their passwords are too easy to guess? Yours truly did not receive one of those! Not at all. You poor, uninspired, uncreative suckers... *ho ho ho*

Anyway, back to manga, at least briefly. I think I have about 30 more volumes on my backlog to go. (>_<)

Yasui, Kentaro and Tsukasa Kotobuki. Sword of the Dark Ones. Vol. 2. La Jolla: CMX, 2005. (First Japanese Edition: 2002)
Summary: Leroy concludes his battle with Cartel, but suffice to say that it doesn't exactly bring out the best in him. Seems that he's actually a demon of some sort. Ragnarok is able to reunite with Leroy and get him out of trouble, but, unfortunately, Cartel has subsequently been kidnapped by the Dark Ones, and Lily arrives to recruit Leroy to rescue him. In exchange, she gives him what he was originally searching for: Lena's sister Mana.
Comments: Oooooohhh, Ragnarok can take the form of a androgynous, long-haired bishounen. (That's him on the cover there.) Nothing like having a pet sword that also becomes a pet playboy! Now I think I know where Ogasawara Uki got her idea for Urakata na Kaminoki's man x sword sex *coughs*. Heh. Otherwise, the plotline reeks of Vampire Hunter D. Like D, Leroy is the most powerful, albeit hybrid human-monster, example of his kind, but nonetheless he is an enemy of his kind that intends to hunt them to extinction. *yawn* We've done it before. Yes, we have. Right down to the post-apocalyptic setting. At least Kotobuki's artwork is pretty.
Notes: paperback, 1st American edition
Rating: 5/10 - Nothing substantive, but mildly entertaining if you don't mind the formulaic plot.

Yasui, Kentaro and Tsukasa Kotobuki. Sword of the Dark Ones. Vol. 3. La Jolla: CMX, 2005. (First Japanese Edition: 2003)
Summary: The next battle begins, this time with a vampire, who happens to be a lackey of none other than Cartel's Dark One father. The Dark Ones have been combining their DNA with humans to form a superior race. Cartel was a reject. Leroy, it seems, is a success. Anyway, Leroy defeats the boss weretiger. End of story.
Comments: Aww, I rather feel sorry for Lily. She was a fun character. Typical, lolicon-type cutie, but still. She had guts. Well, we end up learning about Ragnarok's past, and it's not that interesting...save that there might be more like him. We do NOT learn about Leroy's past, surprise surprise, and you really don't see much in the way of character development on his end through the story even though this is the final volume. (I can't help thinking that this is one of those unabashed marketing monsters that attempts to pull in fans of the original, in this case novel, story and make more money off of those hapless morons while making a minimum of artistic effort.) I was again getting the Vampire Hunter D vibe--and we even had a real vampire this time around!--and there was also a bit of Wolf's Rain thrown in with the mystic, talking wolf bit player that appears.
Notes: paperback, 1st American edition
Rating: 5/10 - Not bad per se, but this is REALLY only worth the time if it happens to be your favorite genre.

Well, not an email actually, just an odd message on that page you get when you submit your update... Mine wasn't exactly guessable, even if you had known me for 20 years..

Changed now......

Well, whatever it is, I haven't been getting it. XD XD XD

Was the old one a real word or some easy variation of real words?
21st-Oct-2005 12:33 am (UTC)
I guess a pretty obscure actual word... But, the new one is a modification, so I don't want to give it away! ^^;;

I wasn't asking you to! But hacker programs run through the dictionary first, which makes real word passwords vulnerable.

I did not get the message either. But then I have a mix of letters and numbers in mine and the letters don't equate a word.

Ditto. Mine's a gibberish mix of letters and numbers.
