"In the city of my birth, I had a dream..."
Oh my God!!! Do mine eyes deceive me??? XD

CMX has licensed Cipher by Narita Minako, the first volume (of twelve total) to be released this October! Not quite vintage manga, as to be "vintage" in my private opinion, it must be from the 70's or older, but this is a classic 80's title by a very skilled mangaka, who is also known for her other titles Alien Street, Alexandrite, and Natural. This one has always been on my long-term reading list of Japanese manga for years, but I've never gotten around to it. Looks like my procrastination will soon be over! XD

What with CMX's release of From Eroica With Love by Aoike Yasuko and Swan by Ariyoshi Kyoko, they are continuing their support of oldies-but-goodies in shoujo manga. No one, but no one, has done that since Viz's short-lived "Flower Comics" imprint, and it's a pleasure to see CMX attempt to occupy a niche that has scared the rest of the manga publishers, not to mention comic book publishers in general, away.

EDIT: And guess what else CXM has got? Moon Child by Shimizu Reiko. Gender-bending mermaids. *cries with joy* And, according to tricianna, Mirai no Utena by Hiwatari Saki, creator of the famed Please Save My Earth.

I am *so* glad CMX brought over "From Eroica With Love." That manga is crack on crack with a side of crack, and I would never have known about it if I hadn't seen it in a sampler they were giving out at last year's Otakon.

I just wonder what happened to their release of Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne, which was announced a year ago and hasn't come to pass yet . . .

Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne is also scheduled for release this October. ^_^

Here's their release schedule:

*chuckles* I'm kinda surprised, actually, that you've never heard of Eroica. I thought the title was practically iconic. ^^; Just goes to show, I guess, how important what CMX is doing really is! ^__^

If you haven't tried Swan, that's very worth it too.

I got the latest CMX sampler from my manga pimp :) and saw Cipher there (as well as the other series by the PSME mangaka). The snippet was interesting so I'll be sure to check it out when they release it. Somebody at CMX is doing their homework.

(as well as the other series by the PSME mangaka).

*blinks* They have another title by Hiwatari Saki? Do you remember which one?

Somebody at CMX is doing their homework.

*nods* I agree. They're staring with classic shounen manga, too, with Kikaider.

I think it was Mirai no Utena, but they gave it a different title. I just looked it up at ANN and it says Tower of the Future, but I dont remember if that's what the sampler said.

*nods* That sounds like Mirai no Utena. Wow, another classic title. I think that one is older than Please Save My Earth, actually. I had wondered if maybe they had licensed one of Hiwatari's newer titles.

But I just checked around, and they have Moon Child by Shimizu Reiko too. *cries with joy* God, I love that manga...

Like are you GOING to post it at DMP!!!! You know I did a massive mod clean up there today and realize his run in with us quieted him down a tad. I didn't think we were flaming him at all so I have no idea why he's been so docile.

Do you want me to? You haven't done it yet?

Don't tell anyone, but I [whisper]seriously dislike shoujo[/whisper]

So no, I haven't pulled a 'K-chan' and scooped you yet. ^_^

Well, for what it's worth, I've posted to DMP.

Don't tell anyone, but I [whisper]seriously dislike shoujo[/whisper]

And I seriously dislike many examples of almost all manga and anime genres, which makes a lot of people think I hate just about everything. ^^; (The flip-side is that I've pretty widely in almost everything.)

I've read Cipher and likedit a lot. Even if at times it was like a soap opera, but then there were references to a tv show in the manga. The art is pretty but I was disappointed by the ending.

Have you read Moon Child yet? ^_^ I love that one...
27th-Jul-2005 09:43 pm (UTC)
Not yet. Has it ended?
27th-Jul-2005 09:45 pm (UTC)
Oh yes. Long, long ago. 13 volumes, less if you buy the bunko versions. Genderbending mermaids... *cries some more*

For some reason, I believe her most recent series, Kaguyahime, just finished, but I don't remember where I read that. ^^;

I guess I was confusing it with Kaguyahime then.

The problem is that I'm not that fond of genderbending in manga. I prefer my characters to be either male or female. The whole genderbending thing seems like a bad plot device to me.
