"In the city of my birth, I had a dream..."
Well, I'm off! ^_^
24th-Jul-2005 10:18 am
And I should be back this evening, provided we don't get stranded in traffic on the LIE or CIE until tomorrow. *sighs*

Pressing Questions of the Day: Should I bring my bathing suit? Will I really want to go swimming in the cousins' pool even if I do?

Until then...

Ponder this utterly random picture of Saco Bay, Maine taken from the front step of my family's beach cottage (for sale right now, if you're interested in buying :P ) that I took while up there last week. Yes, that's private access to the beach (!) that you're looking at. ^^; You can just see Eagle Island through the fog, as well.

EDIT: As always, I will have my cellphone with me in case of emergency. Feel free to text message or call at any time.

Have a good trip! Nice pic actually. With the fog looks like the path is going to nowhere.
24th-Jul-2005 02:32 pm (UTC)
Thanks! Actually, the reason why the path looks to be going nowhere is because there's a *huge* drop down to the actual beach from the dunes. Erosion. T_T We've lost so much beach thanks to a jetti that has stopped all new sand deposits and strong winter storms.

Intresting, makes for good photos though at least

If you saw it from the other side, well, that's a bit painful to look at. ^^;

Mmm, beach cottage ... sounds tempting! Can you live there year 'round, or is it not winterized?
25th-Jul-2005 02:55 am (UTC)
It's completely winterized, with brand-new baseboard heaters. If you're curious, the listing is here:

Wow, it's gorgeous ... *sigh*

*shakes head* No need to say then, how bitter my mother is about it. After my grandparents died, she wanted to keep it in the family, but her brothers overruled her, so on the market it went.

Nothing too exciting, really. It's just LJ's flexible squares layout with some minor dinkering and the addition of a brown marble background.

Do you like it? If so, I guess I'm flattered. ^_^

Absolutely beautiful. @_@

That looks like a pretty place. I really need to travel more.
25th-Jul-2005 03:47 am (UTC)
I don't travel all that much, either, and definitely with I could do more.

What places have you been?
25th-Jul-2005 03:49 am (UTC)
I've been around Europe when we lived in Germany, but I was too young to have any decent memories. Other than that it's all been here on our continent. Mexico, Canada, and the US. I've been to several places here in this country, but there's so much more I'm dying to see.
25th-Jul-2005 03:55 am (UTC)
I've never even been to Canada, despite relatively proximity when in Maine, and my experience in Mexico totals less than a day. Other than that, I've been to England and Spain touring for a week or two respectively, and I've lived in South Korea while on a Fulbright. Nothing else really worth mentioning. I really wish I had the opportunity to broaden my horizons further. Heck, I've never seen more of the US than the East Coast! Terrible, really, that.

So having grown up with a halfway decent vacation spot I suppose *tries to hide lust for oceanfront house in Maine* do you think you'd ever want to buy a summer house yourself?
My family had the cottage on the lake in the Adirondacks when I was growing up, and my parents just sold it a couple years ago.. Really, now I think a lot more about the work and expense involved in owning such a place! We spent A LOT of time working on the house, and the taxes were going through the roof when my parents sold... Personally, I think I'd prefer to just have my one home to worry about, and travel different places or stay home, with no obligations anywhere... Still, I do sometimes miss zipping across the lake in the power boat for dinner or ice cream on a warm summer night ^_^

So having grown up with a halfway decent vacation spot

*snorts* Oh, that's right--I never mentioned my father's parent's place in the Catskills in Upstate New York did I? ^^;;;; That one went exclusively to my Uncle Robert (see most recent post :P )...and he sold it.

*tries to hide lust for oceanfront house in Maine* do you think you'd ever want to buy a summer house yourself?

Honestly? I doubt it. I'm not a big one for "getting back to nature." I grew up in an oak forest in Long Valley, thank you very much! And I'm not a fan of the small-town mentality that I encountered in both the Catskills and Saco Bay. Nothing like being stared at because you're different, you know.

Besides, though it's killing my mother to sell the place, the fact of the matter is is that my parents need the money. Desperately. We're in a very insecure situation right now, and if it weren't for my mother's share of the profit off the sale, there'd be no end to this misery of uncertainty in sight.
